The
Excelsior Motor Company were a motorcycle manufacturer and like other
Midlands motorcycle companies (AJS and BSA) they turned their engineering
skills to radio manufacturing in the 1920's.
This four
pin valve holder is bakelite and uses sprung tension to hold the valve
in place. The valve holder also includes nuts and bolts for panel mounting.
The box (shown right) has the mounting template printed on it. The advert
shown opposite is taken from Wireless World dated August 24th 1927 showing
a selling price of 1 shilling. It's interesting to note that they also
sold AJS chokes but I'm unsure of the business relationship between
these two motorcycle companies.
