Britains Best Crystal Ltd
The Mighty Atom

Original price 1 shilling and 6 pence.

The most common form of detector used in 1920's crystal sets was the cats whisker. This tin box contains two cats whiskers in a small tube, a lump of galena crystal, tweezers and an instruction sheet - all wrapped in cotton wool.

A quick glimpse in radio magazines of the day showed the fierce competition between cats whisker/crystal manufacturers with each one claiming distant reception capabilities at loud volume.

The advert (opposite) was taken from the January 31st 1925 issue of "Popular Wireless & Wireless Review" (page 1328).
